Overview
Digital X-rays give us a clear picture of what’s happening below the surface, using up to 90% less radiation than traditional film.
They reveal what a visual exam can’t, from decay between teeth to problems below the gumline and the health of the bone supporting each tooth. We’ll always show you exactly what we’re looking at on screen.
When we use them
As part of a first visit, to establish a baseline
To check for decay hidden between or beneath teeth
Before treatments like fillings, root canals, or implants
To keep an eye on a known issue over time
What to expect
The scan itself takes just a few minutes and is completely painless. There’s no uncomfortable film to bite down on and no waiting around, as the images appear on screen almost instantly.
We review them with you there and then, point out anything relevant, and use them to plan any treatment around what you actually need.
Is it safe?
Yes. The radiation from a digital dental X-ray is very low, comparable to a short flight or a day of normal background exposure, and we only take them when there’s a clear reason to.
